Huntly, the family town, located in the heart of Aberdeenshire, offers country living within an hour’s commuting distance to the cities of Aberdeen and Inverness. Huntly is full of local heritage. Travelling down the Linden-tree lined Castle Street, also known as “The Avenue”, under the archway of the Simpson Building, the original main building of The Gordon Schools, gifted to the town by the Duchess of Gordon as a memorial to her husband, the fifth duke, with the foundation stone being laid in 1839. Huntly Castle, or the Palace of Strathbogie, stands proud at the bottom of The Avenue, once home to the famous Clan Gordon. Scottish musical heritage is also well promoted due to the efforts of Huntly Pipe Band and Strathbogie Fiddlers with new members always welcome. Huntly is set in a mainly agricultural area but is also home to Deans of Huntly, manufacturers of fine Scottish shortbread, which is distributed throughout the UK, and Rizza’s, makers of ice cream. Huntly train station provides a rail link to Aberdeen and Inverness, with connecting routes North to Wick, and South to the borders and England and Wales. There is also a frequent bus service, providing local travel to towns within the Aberdeenshire area, and also a main service to the cities of Aberdeen and Inverness. Educational facilities include Gordon Primary School and The Gordon Schools, providing a valuable centre for learning for almost 900 pupils. The Linden Centre also offers a variety of classes for adults, including art lessons, yoga and Spanish and Italian lessons. Younger members of the family are also well catered for, with a childcare facility located in the town.
